12/08/2020 - Artificial Green Walls

Green Envee offers an installation service for our artificial green wall panels, but it’s easy to install them yourself. Here’s how to do it.

Measuring and ordering

Please make sure you have carefully measured the area. Each standard sized green wall panel measures 85cm x 85cm. Our mini panels measure just 40cm x 40cm. However, any panel can be cut to size quite easily.
OR make the most of Green Envee’s bespoke ordering service and, for a moderate cost, we’ll re-size the panels for you.
If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and talk to your supplier.

Preparing the walls

There is no structural work needed prior to installation but please note or recommendations for different surfaces. If you are unsure of anything, it is always best to consult a professional.

Our Rome, Milan, Paris and Monaco green wall panels consist of artificial plants secured to a wire mesh panel. The grids within the panel measure 5.5cm x 5.5 cm and each panel comes with a pack of 5 hook fixings which are suitable for brick and concrete structures.

For plasterboard and timber: you will need to purchase specialist plasterboard plugs and screw in cup-hooks or similar.

For wire fences: use heavy duty cable ties to secure the panels in place.

Installation instructions

how to install artificial green wall panels

1. Turn your panel around so that all the plants are facing upwards. Once the panels are in place, you’ll need to tease out the foliage to give that natural look. Don’t worry if you lose some foliage along the way – that’s natural.

2. Start at the top corner of your wall (left or right – whichever is more comfortable for you). Work your way across the top of the wall.

3. Use a spirit level or chalk line to mark out the line of the panels. We suggest you install the first hook so that it coincides with the second row of the mesh, one full square in and one full square down. You will need one hook in the centre of the panel and one towards each corner.

4. Once the hooks are in place, offer up the panel, adjusting the angle of the hook as needed to ensure the panel sits level and square. If it suits your project, you could choose to secure a cable tie around the hook and frame for extra stability – but this is not essential.

5. Put your next panel in place one you have repeated the hook installation.Make sure the panels are close together and ensure that the plants are not tangled up within the backing. You could use cable ties to join the mesh of adjacent panels if you wish.

6. Repeat the process until the top row of your wall is complete.

7. Once the first row is in place, move on to the second row. The method is just the same. Remember to make sure that no plants are tangled up – and if you want to, you can open the plants up as you go along.

Resizing artificial green wall panels

You may need to reduce the size of some panels. Here’s how to do it

  1. Turn the panel over to show the rear.
  2. Carefully mark the mesh and cut accordingly using an angle grinder with a metal blade. (remember to wear safety glasses and ear protection)
  3. Be careful not to cut any of the plants. If you need to remove plants, standard pliers will allow you to remove the metal or cable ties.
  4. If you have any spare foliage you can use a cable tie to secure them back into the fixed panels. If you need any extra foliage – please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Caring for your artificial green wall

A simple hose down is all that is needed for external wall panels. For internal artificial green walls, a feather duster or a long pole duster will remove any detritus and keep the wall looking great. There’s no need for chemicals or complicated cleaning regimes. Green Envee artificial green walls really are low maintenance.
